The next time you visit New Jersey or New York City, plan a visit to Fort Lee Historic Park. You can learn about this important Revolutionary War historic site and enjoy spending time in a peaceful, pretty natural area. Winding trails lead visitors on a tour of the historic area at the southern end of the Park. You will see reproduction gun batteries as well 18th century hut reconstructions typical of the original Fort camp. The Visitor’s Center on site contains two floors of displays related to the history of Fort Lee, including General George Washington’s evacuation of the Fort on November 20, 1776.The north end of the Fort Lee Historic Park provides visitors with incredible views of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. Picnicking is permitted in the north part of the Park. You may wish to plan your visit to the Park to coincide with Retreat Weekend. This is an annual event held at Fort Lee Historic Park in November that involves special re-enactments and activities that commemorate the retreat.
