I remember spending Christmas day with a French family and enjoying every minute of my stay. The strange thing is I found myself in the company of people who spoke French for most of the day. There was the occasional explanation in English of some important event during the day, but for the most part, I sat and listened to the jubilant conversation from some very happy people. It seemed like a great way to Learn Spanish. Normally I am the one doing most of the talking during a social gathering, but here I was calmly observing with my eyes and ears as the party went on for most of the evening. It was a good experience and offered me the opportunity to understand how people who do not speak English feel in the company of capable English speakers.
