When you are not able to just close your eyes at night and get at least eight hours of good sleep per night, it may have an effect on the way you live the rest of your life. My husband used to not be able to sleep unless he took an over the counter sleeping aid, and those sometimes worked too well and he could not wake up easily the next day. There are medicinal herbs that have helped him get better sleep on a regular basis. Two that he tried were Melanonin and Valerian Root. He still has some sleepless nights, but these helped greatly.
