Software used to be something people took for granted. It’s hard to believe their was a time when computers weren’t around, when software didn’t exist. Those times were very limiting however. Today with manufacturing execution system software for example, manufacturing plants can do extraordinary things with less manpower. We can run entire factories from computer screens instead of having to go in and have several people watch over them or manually control their functions in potentially dangerous jobs. Software has not taken jobs away, it just moved them into a more intellectual place where the engineer won’t be in harms way but can also do more with the equipment through networking of functions and data flow technologies.
