Survey software is used all over from small and large companies to online retailers and even for government purposes.  During the presidential election, survey software was used to poll people in order to find out who was in the lead and who was more popular.  There is always a certain percentage mentioned for error but this is typically when they are performing exit polls.  I participated in a few surveys online during the election since I was already on the Internet during the day.  The convenience is already there and people are more willing to answer a few questions if they do not have to take out a pen or pencil and color in a bunch of dots.
